This has been a great couple of weeks for lunar photography, with many skilled imagers acquiring wonderful pictures nearly every night of the lunation. A Rip Across Tranquillity

WOW! This is a wonderfully provocative image because of the features it shows and the others it suggests! The Cauchy area is remarkable for its near parallel fault scarp and rille, and for its two or three big domes. But even more delicate features appear with very low lighting.
Double Valentine

Perhaps we need a double Valentine to ward off a Friday the 13th! The image on the left might seem familiar to long time visitors - it was LPOD in February, and was taken by KC Pau. The lower sun image on the right was acquired recently by Jim Phillips.
Ptolemy's Strange Floor

The floor of Ptolemaeus is famous for its shallow depressions called saucers. But this extremely low sun and high resolution view shows that the floor has a lot more features than have been generally reported.

The Consolidated Lunar Atlas is the best photographic lunar atlas ever. Now that might seem a contentious statement so lets consider the CLA and other pretenders to the title. The CLA consists of 228 photographic prints distributed in a 20 lb blue box in 1967.

A few superstar lunar attractions - Plato, Copernicus, Straight Wall, etc - garner the lion's share of observers' attention, thereby leaving many lunar areas overlooked. Examples are the highlands west of Oceanus Procellarum, most of the southern highlands (other than Tycho and Clavius), and the vast northeastern region poleward of Crisium.
