The way a lunar crater looks is the result of its formation and all the modifications that have affected it since. When we look at 97 km wide Pitatus we can imagine that it originally looked like 93 km wide Copernicus, so it must have been significantly modified since its formation!

Aristotle (or Aristoteles) was one of the world's great thinkers and the tutor of Alexander the Great. Somehow Alexander ended up with a derelict lunar crater named in his honor, while the name of his teacher adorns this splendid if slightly unusual crater.
Ina Imaged!

Ina is such a small feature (3 km diameter) of such low relief (30 m) that it is L99 in my Lunar 100 list where objects are generally arranged from easiest to most difficult. It is very difficult to visually see Ina and has been almost unphotographable from Earth.

SMART-1, which has been called SLOW-1 because of its 13.5 month-long voyage to the Moon has finally started imaging the surface. This is one of the images released by ESA showing data taken on the first close approach in early January.
