Surveyor 1 landed in Oceanus Procellarum on 2 June 1966, near the crater Flamsteed. A 100 km wide 'ghost' crater, Flamsteed P, surrounds the landing site, consisting of a ring of hills which are probably just the peaks of an old crater rim, mostly flooded by mare basalts.

Graben is a German word meaning ditch or trough. Geologically, graben form by the dropping downward of a linear block between two parallel faults. Terrestrial graben typically occur in regions of extension - where forces pull the surface apart in directions perpendicular to the resulting graben.

Mare Insularum is a name that was given 1976 to a relatively poorly defined region south of the Carpathian Mountains ring of the Imbrium basin. Its an area of mare and small hills (thus the Sea of Isles) that are ejecta from the Imbrium impact.
