Voznikayushaya elektrostaticheskaya sila ottalkivaet bystro dvizhushiesya protony solnechnogo vetra, sozdavaya reaktivnuyu tyagu. Po sravneniyu s otrazhayushim svet solnechnym parusom – drugoi sistemoi dlya poleta v dalekom kosmose bez ispol'zovaniya raketnyh dvigatelei – elektricheskii solnechnyi parus smozhet uskoryat'sya na bol'shih rasstoyaniyah ot Solnca, razvivaya tyagu pri puteshestvii k vneshnim planetam.
